You've found the blog of Jere Matlock, a web designer and writer. This journal is mostly about writing, web design and getting sites to the top of the search engines (SEO is my business). It is also full of opinions and observations about pretty much everything. If these things are not of interest to you, feel free to go now. Go on, shoo!

Still here? If you have something to say, post a comment or send me an email.

By the way, if you feel like taking offense at something posted on this site, go right ahead, it won't bother me a bit. Kingsley Amis has a nice quote about that, in which I take solace and some pride when the flames arrive:

"If you can't annoy somebody, there's little point in writing."

Temperature Monitors Report Widescale Global Cooling

Friday, February 29th, 2008

DailyTech - Temperature Monitors Report Widescale Global Cooling - this is an interesting article at Daily Tech about a drop in the last year of the temperature worldwide. It’s a fairly significant drop. Anecdotally, we’ve had a colder winter here in Oregon than is usual. The daffodils are about two weeks late in coming up.

While it’s certainly too early to predict any kind of trend on this data, it’s interesting that the info shows that worldwide temperatures are actually dropping over the course of the last year. Is it a blip in the data? Is it a trend? Stay tuned …

Cheyenne Delp - on a psych drug cocktail and dead at 6 years old

Friday, February 29th, 2008

cheyenne delp

Little Cheyenne Delp was first taken by her foster mother (Sherri Mathis) to see a psychiatrist at 5 years of age. She left with prescriptions for three psych drugs for the child. By the time Cheyenne died a year later, apparently strangled to death by her foster mother in 2004, her psychiatrist had her taking *four* psych drugs.

Cheyenne’s foster mother is on trial for murder. Shouldn’t her psychiatrist also be on trial right along with her? That would be Dr. Saran Mudumbi, shown here testifying about how he kept changing around her drug cocktail, increasing the dosages for because for …

Antidepressants Hardly Help - says Time Magazine

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

Antidepressants Hardly Help according to an article in Time Magazine. I rarely trust any information provided by what is usually the central mouthpiece for Big Pharma, and the trumpet of the AMA and APA, but in this case they seem to have let some actual science slip through in their reporting. Prozac, Effexor, Serzone, Paxil and Seroxat, the SSRI drugs, are basically about as effective as a placebo sugar pill for all except the most severely depressed. So why have 50 million people been taking these drugs worldwide? Because they drug companies only provide the POSITIVE results of their drug trials …

Risperdal and Seroquel makers sued by Montana

Saturday, February 23rd, 2008

The manufacturers of Risperdal and Seroquel, widely-prescribed anti-psychotic drugs, have been sued by the Montana Attorney General for injury or deaths of Montanans.

I hope more state Attorneys General will get on this particular band-wagon. These drug companies have very deep pockets (billions of dollars of profits per year) and are using extremely aggressive marketing campaigns to get doctors to prescribe these drugs off-label, for things that they were never approved to do by the FDA. The pseudo-science of psychiatry is in bed with Big Pharma on this, and are guilty of pushing the whole “bad brain chemistry” myth, for which …

Scientology should be met with tolerance

Letter to the editor
By BERTRAM FIELDS
Dear Peter, I was disappointed by your recent column on Scientology and Tom Cruise. You say some things that are surprising coming from a man of your intelligence and education. You seem to recognize that, in America, we are all supposed to be free to practice — and even preach — the religion of our choice. Then, you appear to deny this fundamental right to Scientologists because of “their beliefs and protocols.” You add “To be a …

Fox News vs Anonymous

Sunday, February 10th, 2008

Anonymous is in the news again today for setting up demonstrations outside various Churches of Scientology.

Here’s a video from a year ago, from Fox News, showing what the group Anonymous is really about. They haven’t been just cyber-terrorists for some time, they are actual terrorists and the Church of Scientology is just their latest target. Hopefully these demonstrations will remain peaceful — it’s a given that the Scientologists won’t provoke them — they won’t even be talking to them in most cases.

Psychology Making our Kids into Walking Targets

Sunday, February 10th, 2008

I received a press release today concerning a new book by Beverly Eakman, a whistle-blower working with CCHR, working to expose to the light how psychology has corrupted the American educational system. She says:

“I take issue with teaching methodologies whose primary purpose is to target the emotions rather than challenge the intellect.”

Walking Targets points to an agenda where “educators often think that they are using scientific methodology to transmit ‘thinking skills’ or that they are “empowering pupils to be ‘decision-makers.’”

In “Bushwhacking Johnny,” one of the 40+ articles in her book, Eakman explains that teachers should not exist to strip …

Global warming - Place your bets!

Friday, February 8th, 2008

The Federalist (a great newsletter for those interested in preserving and protecting the Constitution of the USA), published this posting today on bets being placed on the Global Warming scam by scientists who are not media sycophants from the gloom and doom school:

FRONTIERS OF JUNK SCIENCE: GLOBAL WARMING SNOW JOB MELTING?

According to a recent National Center for Policy Analysis report, last year’s declaration of impending doom from the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) in the form of its Fourth Assessment Report was based on opinion instead of science. As hard data continues to emerge, global warming becomes increasingly difficult …

“Anonymous” Hackers going after my server.

Thursday, February 7th, 2008

My server has been the target of 174,000 attempts to hack into to the control panel over the last 24 hours, most coming from one IP address in Germany. I’ve reported the abuse to the appropriate German authorities; we’ll see if they do anything about it. That’s two attempts *per second* to log into my server’s control panel, solid, for 24 hours.

I expect this is just more example of the religious discrimination against anything pro-Scientology, taking the form of malicious mischief by this group of “anonymous” cyber-terrorists. I’m gathering that this is a hate group of a dozen or …

Video - Take Care of Yourself

Wednesday, February 6th, 2008

The venerable “The Way to Happiness” Foundation has come out with some new videos illustrating each of the 21 precepts contained in their common sense moral code. That’s the non-religious moral code that is used to teach prisoners and druggies around the world a moral code, in the highly effective Criminon criminal rehabilitation and Narconon drug rehabilitation programs.

The first of the Way to Happiness videos are here.
