You've found the blog of Jere Matlock, a web designer and writer. This journal is mostly about writing, web design and getting sites to the top of the search engines (SEO is my business). It is also full of opinions and observations about pretty much everything. If these things are not of interest to you, feel free to go now. Go on, shoo!
Still here? If you have something to say, post a comment or send me an email.
By the way, if you feel like taking offense at something posted on this site, go right ahead, it won't bother me a bit. Kingsley Amis has a nice quote about that, in which I take solace and some pride when the flames arrive:
"If you can't annoy somebody, there's little point in writing."

I just completed an SEO audit (an alalysis of the points that make a site search engine friendly) of a directory and sent the owner and her webmaster a list of 20 things that need to be done to make it more search engine friendly. I tried to cover both on-page and off-page SEO points. This is a site I built about 6 years ago — haven’t optimized it for about 3 years as it was doing very well for its keywords and it only recently started to fall in the rankings — I suspect mainly because of link-building on …

This is a short entertaining video from CCHR about the difference between a Disease and a Psychiatric Disorder
Love the “cha-ching” at the end. And how you can’t tell the psychiatrists from the drug company reps without looking closely.
So the next time a psychiatrist tells you your kid needs a psych drug to handle a “brain chemistry imbalance”, ask him exactly what lab test he used to discover this brain chemistry imbalance.

This heartwrenching video about Baby Indiana, born with breathing problems caused by her mother taking the antidepressant Effexor during pregnancy, points people to the Unite For Life website. The video is a photo documentary of the problems leading to the death of this beautiful baby girl.
The purpose of the insidiously named “Mother’s Act” is to screen all pregnant women, all new mothers, and all infants from birth, for “mental health” problems. The only remedy the psychs have is these horrific drugs like Effexor, which cause birth defects and death. The underlying purpose …

I don’t usually talk about politics or economics, except as they relate to psychiatric abuse, government funding of the field of psychiatry or big pharma. (Can you really tell those two apart these days?)
But after hearing about it on twitter, I decided to attend the tax day “Tea Party” in Coos Bay, Oregon, on April 15th, held at the main post office, a busy place where many people, including me, were lining up inside to mail off their tax returns to the IRS on their deadline for filing.
Some photos:

What does it mean that the sunspot count for the first three months of 2009 (when 87% of days were without ANY sunspots) is even lower than the average for last year (2008, when 73% of all days had no sunspots), which was the lowest year since 1913? See this article on sunspot activity.
What does it mean that the output of the sun’s extreme UV is down 6%? And that radio emissions from the sun are the lowest they’ve been in 50 some years (since they started tracking it)?

What does it mean that the average temperature …

Rafferty Pendery over at Social Follow has come up with a new FREE tool that lets you create a button so that others can easily follow you on your favorite social media sites, such as Twitter, LinkedIn, and Facebook (my three personal favorites). His free tool allows you to set up easily used “follow me” links that drop down from a “follow me” button, like the one above.
You can have up to 10 buttons in one account, for different websites. There are many options of button colors to choose from. I like the black one above. …

Very interesting article on Advertising Age detailing letters sent to top drug makers telling them to stop ads on Google and Yahoo touting the benefits of their drugs, without also describing potential risks. How are they going to do that in the constraints of a Google Adwords ad? They aren’t.
Reporter Marissa Miley says:
“The FDA called out nearly every major drug maker, including Bayer, Biogen Idec, Boehringer Ingelheim, Cephalon, Eli Lilly, Forest Laboratories, Genentech, GlaxoSmithKline, Johnson & Johnson, Merck, Novartis, Pfizer, Roche and Sanofi-Aventis, in addition to nearly 50 drug brands. The letters, which

As this video compilation of newscasts in Florida shows, prescriptions for antipsychotic drugs for children are down 75% in Florida after a review process was put in place a year ago. In order for a psychiatrist to prescribe powerful and dangers anti-psychotic drugs to children, they must first get approval do so from a review panel. Over 200 psychiatrists in Florida decided it wasn’t worth the effort and never …

This is an interesting video from CCHR on Teen Screen, the insidious effort by the P$ych industry to get guaranteed funding for mandatory screening of all children from zero to 18, all pregnant mothers-to-be and all new mothers. My take on this is very easy to state: Don’t let this happen.
When an industry as powerful and as smart as Big Pharma has spent millions of dollars lobbying this effort, you know they are looking for a big payout at the end of it. All in the name of “helping” kids. But practically, of what …
