You've found the blog of Jere Matlock, a web designer and writer. This journal is mostly about writing, web design and getting sites to the top of the search engines (SEO is my business). It is also full of opinions and observations about pretty much everything. If these things are not of interest to you, feel free to go now. Go on, shoo!

Still here? If you have something to say, post a comment or send me an email.

By the way, if you feel like taking offense at something posted on this site, go right ahead, it won't bother me a bit. Kingsley Amis has a nice quote about that, in which I take solace and some pride when the flames arrive:

"If you can't annoy somebody, there's little point in writing."

Been working on new website design using all CSS

Wednesday, April 30th, 2003

Been working on new website design using all CSS for the old Gloves in a Bottle website. Finally settled on this design, which has nice crisp text over blank buttons, and uses no tables. Now on to the drudge work of converting all the pages over to the new design. Joy!

Installed and am using Mailwasher Pro to try to cut down on some of the 300 or so spam emails I get in a day. I like it because it doesn’t just delete the spam, it never downloads spam from the server, and it bounces the spam back …

The Power of Agreements

Monday, April 21st, 2003

Worked on the first page of one new website most of the day for a client ( see test site of Epoch Consultants Inc. ) trying to build it using only CSS and have it be completely table-free–and still work in Netscape 6 and IE 5.5 and 6. It is supposed to look something like this, but the fonts are too small in that image – I can’t read them.

Klaus Hilgers (if you visited that link you saw his picture) is an old friend with whom I wrote a book, (The Power of Agreements) a few years …

A wedding and four stories

Wednesday, April 16th, 2003

I have reserved tickets to my daughter’s wedding in Florida. Should be fun, although taking a week off in May will be tough with my current workload. Feels good to have posted four stories today.

The joys of self-employment

Tuesday, April 15th, 2003

This blog officially launches on Tax Day – how inappropriate. Plenty of poems and what-not here to keep people occupied for a while. I may spend some time putting up more – depends on feedback I get from what’s here. I’m relieved to have it done; this blog has been a project that’s taken way too long as I have had to squeeze time which I really can’t afford from work in order to do this. Ah, the joys of self-employment!
