You've found the blog of Jere Matlock, a web designer and writer. This journal is mostly about writing, web design and getting sites to the top of the search engines (SEO is my business). It is also full of opinions and observations about pretty much everything. If these things are not of interest to you, feel free to go now. Go on, shoo!

Still here? If you have something to say, post a comment or send me an email.

By the way, if you feel like taking offense at something posted on this site, go right ahead, it won't bother me a bit. Kingsley Amis has a nice quote about that, in which I take solace and some pride when the flames arrive:

"If you can't annoy somebody, there's little point in writing."

Tom Cruise celebrates 25th anniversary of Risky Business release

Tuesday, May 6th, 2008

I admit it, I’m a fan of Tom Cruise. Ever since Top Gun, anyway. I didn’t care much for Risky Business.

And now Tom is back on Oprah’s couch. He’s not jumping for joy this time, but he is celebrating 25 years of being a leading actor in films. In other words it’s been 25 years since Risky Business was released.

Two sites worth seeing about Tom:

Oprah’s slide show

and the new Tom Cruise official site

Very slick videos on that official site.

Have fun! I did. And let me know what you think.

Religious Freedom - MSNBC

Monday, January 28th, 2008

It was good to see People Magazine come to the defense of Tom Cruise’s religious beliefs this latest issue. A slew of celebrities have come out in defense of Tom, people like Adam Sandler, Demi Moore, her ex-husband Bruce Willis, Jennifer Lopez, Will Smith, Harvey Weinstein, and others. Here’s a video from MSNBC:

Church of Scientology’s Reply to Andrew Morton’s “Pack of Lies” about Tom Cruise

The Church of Scientology is reported to have issued a statement about Andrew Morton’s unofficial biography of Tom Cruise, aka “the pack of lies”.

The statement is being carried by MSNBC, here.

Most of the lies (except the ones that Morton simply made up) are pretty consistent - the are the same lies you find repeated many times on various apostate sites. That’s the thing about apostates - they have an axe to grind and aren’t afraid to repeat every rumor, innuendo, and lie that they’ve heard over their lives. These get picked up and repeated on enough websites that …

New Tom Cruise Bio

Wednesday, January 9th, 2008

I’ve always admired Tom Cruise. Even the infamous couch-jumping episode made me think, “Wow - to be that excited about falling in love — I remember that feeling!”, and “More power to him!” In every photo of Katie Holmes that I have seen, she looks radiantly happy and in love.

So now there’s a new unauthorized biography of Tom Cruise by the same jerk who published an unauthorized bio of Princess Diana. He makes a whole slew of allegations that I won’t honor by repeating here. Instead, here are some facts:

The author of this unauthorized bio is British, but …
