You've found the blog of Jere Matlock, a web designer and writer. This journal is mostly about writing, web design and getting sites to the top of the search engines (SEO is my business). It is also full of opinions and observations about pretty much everything. If these things are not of interest to you, feel free to go now. Go on, shoo!
Still here? If you have something to say, post a comment or send me an email.

By the way, if you feel like taking offense at something posted on this site, go right ahead, it won't bother me a bit. Kingsley Amis has a nice quote about that, in which I take solace and some pride when the flames arrive:
"If you can't annoy somebody, there's little point in writing."

May 9th of this year marks the 57th anniversary of the publication of the book Dianetics. The History Channel noted it with this silly clip: Dianetics Anniversary. They camp it up a bit, but it IS true that Dianetics was published 57 years ago. Old as I am, that’s before I was born.
They make the e-meter look pretty spooky — but it’s actually very easy to use and for the most part the meter is unobtrusive in the Dianetic counseling. The important thing is the mental image pictures at which the person is looking. Those pictures — especially those …

John Sweeny, a BBC reporter doing an “exposé” on the Church of Scientology, has found that the church is not a normal victim of sensationalist journalism, willing to take whatever they dish out.
Before the BBC could get their smear job on the air, the Church completed its own exposé of the slipshod journalism of this particular BBC reporter and released it here:
BBC Exposé Exposed.
Having personally witnessed an earlier smear job by the notoriously unrepentent Dan Rather, where he interviewed a minister of Scientology and then took those answers out of context and reversed the answers when they …

There’s a great photo slide show of some of the Scientology celebrities on this TV station’s website: WCBSTV Scientology Celebrities Slide Show. Some of my favorite actresses are Scientologists: Kirstie Alley, Marisol Nichols, Katherine Bell, Anne Archer, Kelly Preston and Jenna Elfman among many others. And I’ll watch any movie with Giovanni Ribisi in it, or Tom Cruise or John Travolta. They seem so very alive, and it’s great to see them doing things to help the Church of Scientology and working with CCHR to help stop the psychiatrists (those pawns of big pharma) in their plans to drug every child in …

Emily’s Story:
“I didn’t know where my life was headed, and I didn’t care. I was doing as many cocktails of different drugs as I could. I was 18 and had been using drugs for four years. It started by using only on the weekends, using with friends at parties, wherever. It quickly escalated to using methamphetamines along with other drugs daily and before I knew it I was shooting up as much as a could whenever I could. The whole time I was doing it, I thought I was alone.
You would think that after getting arrested for possession …

Gary Bromwell is in charge of the Scientology Volunteer Ministers in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Here’s his excerpted report of the effect that the team of VMs is creating in Indonesia:
“On the 27th of May 2006, a natural disaster occurred on the Island of Java, in the city of Yogyakarta, Indonesia.
An earthquake measuring 6.9 on the Richter scale rocked Yogyakarta and surrounding areas for almost a minute. This was a terrifying experience for locals as the ground undulated up and down like a writhing snake. Frantic inhabitants struggled to escape their houses, doors had become stuck tight due to movement in …

B.L. Ochman of the “What’s Next Blog” used the words “Dan Rather” and “journalistic integrity” in the same sentence — apparently thinking that they contained no irony. So I posted a comment on her blog reminding her of of the frauduent story about Prez Bush, and giving her my take on the Heber Jentzch interview I witnessed back in the late 70’s, when Dan Rather interviewed the President of the Church of Scientology and took Heber’s answers and twisted them to fit his slant on the story. By that I mean he literally cut and pasted the answers where Heber had said “Yes” …
