You've found the blog of Jere Matlock, a web designer and writer. This journal is mostly about writing, web design and getting sites to the top of the search engines (SEO is my business). It is also full of opinions and observations about pretty much everything. If these things are not of interest to you, feel free to go now. Go on, shoo!

Still here? If you have something to say, post a comment or send me an email.

By the way, if you feel like taking offense at something posted on this site, go right ahead, it won't bother me a bit. Kingsley Amis has a nice quote about that, in which I take solace and some pride when the flames arrive:

"If you can't annoy somebody, there's little point in writing."

Scientology Portland buys new building

Wednesday, January 9th, 2008

My local Church of Scientology in Portland, Oregon, has just bought a new building, located at 812 SW Washington St., downtown. The building was bought for about $5 Million, using donations from the thousands of local Scientologists (including me!) There’s no mortgage - it’s now owned outright by the Church.

A little personal history - in 1971 there was no Church of Scientology of Portland. There were two small Dianetics centers in Portland then. When I was taking a course in communication during the summer of 1971 at the local Dianetic Academy way out on SE 82nd Street (I remember it took …

New Tom Cruise Bio

Wednesday, January 9th, 2008

I’ve always admired Tom Cruise. Even the infamous couch-jumping episode made me think, “Wow - to be that excited about falling in love — I remember that feeling!”, and “More power to him!” In every photo of Katie Holmes that I have seen, she looks radiantly happy and in love.

So now there’s a new unauthorized biography of Tom Cruise by the same jerk who published an unauthorized bio of Princess Diana. He makes a whole slew of allegations that I won’t honor by repeating here. Instead, here are some facts:

The author of this unauthorized bio is British, but …

HCI On the Spot - in the spotlight

Sunday, January 6th, 2008

This blog, http://hsi.sharpseo.com/, aka “HCI On the Spot”, is written by Michele Cagan of the Health Sciences Institute. Her blog (recently, anyway) focuses on problems with forced administration of vaccinations in New Jersey and Maryland to preschoolers. Maryland and New Jersey, in their infinite wisdoms, have decreed that no matter what the parents say, they WILL vaccinate them against the flu and other diseases. They have put the full force of the law behind this, backing it up with state troopers. They should change the signs on the freeways as you enter the states of NJ and MD, to “Welcome …

DSM

Saturday, January 5th, 2008

The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Psychiatry (a misnomer, as there are no statistics in it) currently lists 370 types of mental illness. It all sounds so scientific, until you find out that they vote (using a simple show of hands) to add new “mental diseases” to the DSM. Here’s a terrific video about the DSM that explains the scam. The reason they have so many kinds of mental diseases is so that they can bill insurance companies (and the government) for their “treatment” and for the drugs being pushed by the pharmaceutical companies.
