You've found the blog of Jere Matlock, a web designer and writer. This journal is mostly about writing, web design and getting sites to the top of the search engines (SEO is my business). It is also full of opinions and observations about pretty much everything. If these things are not of interest to you, feel free to go now. Go on, shoo!

By the way, if you feel like taking offense at something posted on this site, go right ahead, it won't bother me a bit. Kingsley Amis has a nice quote about that, in which I take solace and some pride when the flames arrive:

"If you can't annoy somebody, there's little point in writing."

Latest Virginia Shooting - concealed carry would have stopped it?

This image is being circulated by one of my clients, Front Sight Firearms Training Institute. After 9/11, they offered free training to any pilots that wanted to receive it, as long as those pilots were then allowed to carry firearms on their planes. I’m not sure where THAT stands right now, as I head that some airlines were allowing pilots to carry firearms, and others were not. Would love to know the current status of that, if anyone wants to comment.

The picture says it all. Gun Control

I believe there’s a lot of truth in this. I have a daughter in college - After this incident in Virginia, I’d like very much for her to carry a handgun in her handbag at all times. Better to have to shoot someone to stop them from shooting you, than NOT having that option because of political correctness and a failure to confront evil. There IS evil in the world. She’s a smart, sane, and courageous person, and would have the guts to pull the trigger if needed to stop someone from shooting her or her classmates. The US Constitution guarantees the right of the people to keep and bear arms. They may not have envisioned such a scenario as what happened in a Virginia classroom on Monday, but after the French and Indian Wars and the War of Independence, they were no strangers to random violence being perpetrated on defenseless people. Hence our 2nd Amendrment rights.

Robert Heinlein said it well: “An armed society is a polite society.”

One Response to “Latest Virginia Shooting - concealed carry would have stopped it?”

  1. Doyle Pirtle Says:

Here’s a few questions for the “Call the POLICE for protection” crowd.
#1. How long did it take the Police to respond?(we’ve all heard that one)
#2. How many shots were fired by the “Goofball” murderer?
#3. How many shots were fired by the Police protecting the students?
( I believe that was ZERO)
#4. How many students were saved by the Police?
(again I believe that was ZERO)
Don’t get me wrong, this is nothing against the Police. It is just a matter of geography that it takes them so long to respond. Police responce can NOT be instantaneous. However, one armed citizen could have stopped the whole bloody mess, almost INSTANTLY!!!
    Just a thought.
