You've found the blog of Jere Matlock, a web designer and writer. This journal is mostly about writing, web design and getting sites to the top of the search engines (SEO is my business). It is also full of opinions and observations about pretty much everything. If these things are not of interest to you, feel free to go now. Go on, shoo!

Still here? If you have something to say, post a comment or send me an email.

By the way, if you feel like taking offense at something posted on this site, go right ahead, it won't bother me a bit. Kingsley Amis has a nice quote about that, in which I take solace and some pride when the flames arrive:

"If you can't annoy somebody, there's little point in writing."

I like this press release issued by the Church of Scientologyand the new Scientology Today website it announced:

News in the first six years of the new millennium can be characterized by extremes. The extremely bad dominates printed and electronic news resources and floods the airwaves with stories and images of war, fraud, human rights violations, spiraling inflation, famine and terrorism.

But at the same time, there has never been a period of greater expansion for the Scientology religion and the application of its effective social and personal solutions to improve life for the individual and society. Nor has there ever been more interest in the Scientology, Dianetics and L. Ron Hubbard.

Hundreds of new Scientology missions and groups have opened this year around the world. Seven Scientology Volunteer Ministers Goodwill Tours are bringing effective solutions to thousands of people each day in towns and cities on five continents, while tens of thousands are joining the ranks of the Volunteer Ministers, a group whose reputation for help is such that a bright yellow shirt is virtually a passport to go behind the lines in any disaster zone.

New state-of-the-art print-on-demand facilities have just been put in place to make it possible to produce and distribute L. Ron Hubbard’s books instantly, anywhere on earth. The Church has production facilities that set the standard for audio visual products, which turn out hundreds of thousands of CDs and DVDs of the films and taped lectures of Ron Hubbard. Meanwhile beautiful, new Scientology churches are being established in the heart of major cities, providing a center for our social betterment and community outreach programs.

It’s a period of great expansion for Scientology and its message of hope and help: “Something can be done about it!” — personally it makes me very glad.
