You've found the blog of Jere Matlock, a web designer and writer. This journal is mostly about writing, web design and getting sites to the top of the search engines (SEO is my business). It is also full of opinions and observations about pretty much everything. If these things are not of interest to you, feel free to go now. Go on, shoo!

Still here? If you have something to say, post a comment or send me an email.

By the way, if you feel like taking offense at something posted on this site, go right ahead, it won't bother me a bit. Kingsley Amis has a nice quote about that, in which I take solace and some pride when the flames arrive:

"If you can't annoy somebody, there's little point in writing."

Flowering Broccoli

broccoli in bloom

The “head” of the broccoli plant, the part that one eats, will eventually turn into flowers and later seeds. Here’s what a broccoli plant looks like when it is flowering. We didn’t go down to the garden for a few days (it was raining here and the garden was being watered by nature itself) , and they got away from us. These brocolli plants will not be being eaten. They have nice yellow flowers, but they do not smell sweet - in fact they stink.

kiwi

We planted these kiwi about 5 years ago. They are cut back every year because they need it — they are extremely aggressive climbers. Last year we had kiwi flowers but no fruit. This year we had many more flowers and we’re hoping some of them will become kiwi fruits.
