You've found the blog of Jere Matlock, a web designer and writer. This journal is mostly about writing, web design and getting sites to the top of the search engines (SEO is my business). It is also full of opinions and observations about pretty much everything. If these things are not of interest to you, feel free to go now. Go on, shoo!

Still here? If you have something to say, post a comment or send me an email.

By the way, if you feel like taking offense at something posted on this site, go right ahead, it won't bother me a bit. Kingsley Amis has a nice quote about that, in which I take solace and some pride when the flames arrive:

"If you can't annoy somebody, there's little point in writing."

Audio Generator / Ask Database

I’ve recently been working on a site where the owner wanted to put an audio clip on the site, and solicit questions from the visitors so he could answer them in an audio clip (podcast). The site’s coming along fine. The place to go to set up an audio clip is Audio Generator. It’s a fairly inexpensive monthly service. They also host the audio clips and provide the code to play them with various start/stop/fast forward/rewind buttons. There are probably programs that would let someone do this for free, but this is quite a clever system that the “non-technical” can use pretty easily.

To keep track of the answers, there’s the Ask Database. Also easy for the non-technical to use. Any decent PHP or ASP programmer could cobble together something similar, but this is slick and professional. Why re-invent the wheel since this works as well as it does?
